Through the years the Adams Fire Department has had it's share of calls for water rescues or other emergencies involving water. The flood control chute that traverse Adams has been the scene of a number of rescues, both for man and animal. Built by the US Army Corp of Enginneers in the 1950's, the chutes that confine the Hoosac River both in Adams and North Adams have reduced property damage from floods but make accessing the river for rescues difficult.
