*Work in progress*
Nesting is one of the core mechanisms in the game if players wish to upstats theirs dragons or just pass down their skin. As a community oriented game, nesting is a way to connect with others players and show a sense of teamwork.
If you aim to get better statistics or a certain skin color, getting nested is a good way to obtain a dream dragon and/or a better survival.
So without further addons, here's a quick guide to nesting!
Courtship
First, a male and a female dragon of the same specie is required to start. Then, both need to court each others so the female can put down her nest.
The male is the one who have to initiate the dance. To do so, a male must aim at the female (holding right-click) and press 5 (or courtship via the emote wheel - accessible via the tab key)
Once done and hopefully the female received the 'notification', she can answer the male dance and use the courtship emote next, doing the same as the male before. (aiming + 5)
If all is done right, the female will be able to put down her nest and start to lay down her eggs. To put down a nest, press the 'N' key and the ground must be flat enough.
*The male must stay close when the female is choosing a spot to put down the nest. Once down, he is free to move away.
Egg Laying
Now that the nest is made, the female must stay laid down on the nest so the eggs may start to appear. She can stand up, but it will stops the laying process and resume only when she will be laid down again. Getting away from its nest may turn it unprotected, meaning others players may attack it. (one of the parents can stay close to avoid this)
One egg may takes between 10-15 minutes to spawn, if the female have mutation points into 'Social' it will lower this time. Also, each specie may have a different max number of eggs per nest.
Ex: Biolumin lay 5 eggs per nest, while the Shadow Scale may produce 3 eggs only.
Once an egg is down in the nest, it may starts to incubate. Note that some dragon species require certain temperature to incubate theirs eggs.
Ex: The Flame Stalker need a warm nest to get its eggs to incubate, so either breathing fire on the nest or nesting into a warm environment will suffice.
Hatching from a nest
You got an egg down and incubated, meaning you can now invite a player to hatch from your egg!
To invite someone to your eggs, the player you wish to give an egg to must be in the same group as you. Open your Social panel (O), create a group then click 'Players' and search for the player name in the list. Once found, select the player and click "Group invite" down the screen.
The player will receive a notification and must open its Social panel as well to accept the invite.
When the player is in your group, interact with your nest (E), select the egg tab ready to hatch at the left of your screen, select the gender of the egg (if able to) and then, click on the player name on the right.
The player should receive a notification and be able to accept the egg invite via the Social panel. And there you go, your new baby is now born!
A dragon genetic regroup 2 category; lineage and statistics (stats).
Statistics can be enhanced via nesting and later, potentially with pearls. (not yet in game)
There's many reasons why the genetic is important; either purely cosmetic, to get better statistics and chance in combats or simply to have better survival chance.
You choose which aspect you prefer!
Lineage includes the parents and grandparents of a dragon. It can affects the skins and colors palette (not yet in game) your dragon can pass down to your nests.
A dragon have a Dominant skin (the skin visible on your body) and a recessive skin. (not physically visible, but still can affect the skins you may pass down to your hatchlings)
*You need the "Dominant" mutation to know your recessive skin and this one is only visible in your nest interface at the moment.
Each skins also own a rarity rang. If a skin have a low rarity (ex; common), more chance for it to pass as a dominant skin. The contrary if the skin is rarer.
Skin rarity order = Common, Uncommon, Rare, Hybrid, Exotic, Legendary.
(Your dragon need the Dominant mutation to know its skin rarity, either via its genetic panel or nest interface)
You also need to be careful about incest. All direct links have to be avoided or your hatchlings will earn a full "F" in statistics.
Here's the couples you can do and need to avoid;
Couples you can do; Grandparents / Grandkids / Aunts / Uncles
Couples you have to avoid; Parents / Kids / Brothers and Sisters / Half-brothers and Half-sistersĀ
Note: Only the dragon is considered into the lineage, not the players name.
Example: If "Player 1" is your father, but get renested later, it will lose all links to your dragon and will be able to make a couple with yours. (Still need to verify you doesn't have any direct links together elsewhere, better safe than sorry)
Example of lineage:
Tip: To know your dragon skin, pass your cursor on the dragon icon above your name. You can also do it for your parents.
To know your grandparents skins however, you will need the "Dominant" mutation.
Statistics, or stats, are shown by letters from E (F if incest) to A++.
These statistics are separated in two; Dominant stats and Recessive stats.
Dominant stats, the ones in yellow, are the ones that will affect your dragon, while the recessive stats will only affect your nests. (recessives stats can pass down to your hatchlings)
Tip: The recessives statistics are the little white letters at the right of the dominant stats. These can only be revealed if a dragon have the Dominant mutation. Otherwise, these will stay hidden and still affect your hatchlings stats.
What is the "Bloodline Quality"?
The "Bloodline Quality" (or BQ) is also important if you wish to upstats a dragon statistics. Statistics will not go higher than the Bloodline Quality, so if a dragon have a BQ in C, its stats cannot go higher than C+. It is recommended to rise the Bloodline Quality before enhancing the statistics.
The Bloodline Quality rise as such;
E+E=D / D+D=C / C+C=B / B+B=A / A+A=A
Benefits of better statistics:
Having better stats will give your dragon a certain percentage in bonus to the corresponding statistics. Here how the bonus works;
E = 0% bonus
D- = 1% bonus
D = 2% bonus
D+ = 3% bonus
C- = 4% bonus
C = 5% bonus
C+ = 6% bonus
B- = 7% bonus
B = 8% bonus
B+ = 9% bonus
A- = 10% bonus
A, A+, A++ = 11.5%, 13% bonus, 14.5%.
How to obtain A++?
The A++ are only obtained by "Supercrit" the statistics.
Here's some ways to achieve this;
Getting the Dominant mutation can "Supercrit" some of the eggs stats.
A Brood Watcher can enhance the stats of the eggs it decides to incubate and may cause some stats to 'Supercrit'. (Only if it tries to enhance A stats)
The Nesting pearl will give better chance to "Supercrit" some of the eggs stats. (Not in game yet)
Note; The A++ aren't cumulative. Example, a dragon with 3++ making a nest with a 2++ dragon will not give 5++ eggs. The A, A+ and A++ all work as 'A'.
Here are the chances to obtain A++ with the Dominant mutation only and parents with 18A or 18A+; (Each stats have 5% chance to turn as A++)
Egg with at least 1A++ = 60%
Egg with at least 2A++ = 22%
Egg with at least 3A++ = 5%
Egg with at least 4A++ = 1%
Egg with at least 5A++ = 0.15%
And this go on.
Example of a statistics sheet:
Descriptions of each statistics:
Life Expectancy = More health
Scale Thickness = More Armor
Endurance = More stamina, faster stamina regeneration
Bile Production = More bile, faster bile regeneration
Bite Force = Bite strenght
Power = Bile damage (fire breath, plasma, e.t.c.)
Strength = Melee damage
Nutrient Absorption = Hunger
Water Retention = Thirst
Toxin Tolerance = Sickness tolerance
XYZ Resistance = Resistance to corresponding damage
(Example; "Venom resistance" means you own a resistance against venom, e.t.c)
Note: These 8 statistics affect the percentage of resistances into the "Dragon Scales" panel.
Example of the different statistics in the "Dragon Scales" section between a dragon in "Full E" and "Full A";
