Choosing a server
When opening the game for the first time, you will be welcomed with a list of servers. There's several modes you can choose from; PvP, PvE, DvE, RP-PvE, RP-PvP, CvC.
If it is your very first session in the game, it is strongly recommended that you start on a PvE server to learn the basics. Day of Dragons is a very clan-oriented game, it is pretty complicated to start solo into a PvP environment with already strong etablished clans around.
The official servers are shown in red, community servers are in black.
The little black logo (or red for community server) ressembling a 'T' at the right of a server name let you know the configuration the server currently have; if groups are allowed, clan limit, if it's possible to see the name of others without being grouped with them, e.t.c.
The blue logo means the anti-cheat is activated on the server. If there's none, there is no anti-cheat active.
Which Dragon?
With the base game, you have access to 3 dragons to start your adventure (not including the quest unlockable species);
The Flame Stalker.
The Shadow Scale.
The Inferno Ravager.
Two of these dragons are actually part of the hardest survival wise (the Flame Stalker and the Inferno Ravager)
It is suggested to try the Shadow Scale as your first dragon, considering its low hunger/thirst needs and mobility.
But the final choice is yours!
*If you wish to learn more about these 3 dragons, you can visit theirs respectives pages linked below;
Newborn into dragon lands
You just broke off from your shell and aren't sure where to start?
As a small orphan, you look around you, lost and wondering...
"How am I going to survive? Where I can find foods? How I can navigate around?"
Here is some tips below that will help you to start on the game!
Player Interface
Let's take a look at the player interface first;
You can even create yourself a Waypoint;
Tip : You can set your interface to include the compass and coordinates. (recommended, but optional)
This may help you out when navigating around the map, or if you're stuck in the middle of a fight. In crucial moments, it is always best to know where you are going, but everything stay a matter of taste.
Go into your settings, then 'General' and scroll down into the 'User Interface' section.
Set 'Compass' and 'Coordinates' on 'Static". And since we are there, you can set your 'HUD style' on 'Survival+RPG'. This will keep your hunger/thirst in sight. (only visible when at 50% hunger/thirst)
Orientation
Let's go on; how to navigate?
Trying to figure out where we are is the first reflex we have in a survival game. Gladly, the game have an integrated map.
To access it, press the 'i' key. The map is in the first tab, under "Environment" section.
If you press the 'Enter' key, you can use your cursor to zoom in and out, you can even click on the map to see it in whole!
Scent System
As a baby dragon, the most important is to survive. Your main goals are to find something to eat and a safe place to drink.
This isn't going to be an easy task considering your baby form owns limited speed, but at least, you got a nose!
The scent system works with a code of colors. It is important that you learn to distinguish them to understand what is around you, or to know where to go if you wish to find a prey/water source.
By holding the 'F' key, your dragon will start to snif. When the animation is done, if anything is close enough, your dragon will be able to detect different scents shown as lines. The lines will go in the direction their source is.
Here what your dragon can possibly smell;
If close enough, a scent may show up as 'smoke' rather than lines, as showcased in the next screen.
--
Note; some dragons species cannot detect some scents.
Example: a herbivore cannot smell AI creatures, e.t.c, and a carnivore cannot smell bushes. (however, mushrooms are still detected by carnivores)
What to eat?
There's 7 types of diets in Day of Dragons.
Carnivore: Eat meat
Herbivore: Eat plant
Nectarivore: Drink nectar
Omnivore: Eat meat and plant
Piscivore: Eat fish
Ovivore: Eat eggs
Bile: Eat dragons bile (Elemental, not ingame yet)
Depending of your dragon specie, it will be important to adapt depending of its diet.
*The diet of a dragon is noted down in its details at the Spawn Menu, or into your character panel under the 'Biology' section. (4th tab)
Available food sources
Bulbous Spined Scrab
AI, a potential prey for carnivores or omnivores. Good for the young dragons.
Note; These creatures can defend themselves and hurt the small dragons.
Red Mushroom
Can be eaten by herbivores and carnivores, recommended for babies dragons as these fill a huge portion of their hunger. Can also be useful for adult Shadow Scale and Acid Spitter, as these doesn't have a big appetite.
Attention; These mushrooms are toxics for the non-herbivorous species. If eaten, one will need to sleep to eliminate the poison effect faster.
Berry Bush
Food source for herbivores.
Example: The Brood Watcher
Flowers
Food source for Nectarivores.
Example: The Biolumin
Nest mounds
These have eggs inside. A dragon need to dig to reveal them. Only a few species can eat the eggs.
Example: Acid Spitter (The only one for now)
Swamp Snapper
AI, a potential prey for carnivores or omnivores.
Attention; These creatures are very aggressives and can quickly become deadly. Only the older and experienced dragons can consider to attack a Snapper.
Growth Boost
To help the young dragons to grow, the game do have some growth bonus if some criterias are met.
Here are these:
Your Hunger must be below 20%.
Your Thirst must be below 20%.
Your Sickness must be at 0%.
If these criterias are met, here are the bonus depending of age stage:
Hatchling - 50% of growth bonus.
Juvenile - 25% of growth bonus.
The First Flight
Now that your dragon know how to fill its hunger, navigate itself and have a moment to relax, it is time to turn our attention to its wings. Young dragons can fly right after getting out of their egg!
But, the little ones stay too weak to take off from the ground right away and must find a high place to jump off and gain some momentum.
When you have been able to find a high enough rock or hill, you can now jump or let your dragon fall and hold the 'Space' key, or pressing the 'F' key. (F is to toggle the flight mode)
If all go right, your dragon will start to fly and you will be able to explore the sky.
Good to note that young dragons stay a struggle to get in flight, you may need more than one attempt before succeeding to take to the sky.

And some others tips...
A safe spot
As a baby with limited speed, it is always recommended to find a safe water source to drink of with some food sources nearby it.
Grabbing
To grab something into your mouth, you must aim your target with RMB then press the 'E' key.
The Brood Watcher
It is possible to unlock some dragon species, like the Brood Watcher.
To learn more about it:
Obtaining a Biolumin
Even if this dragon was only available to purchase during the Kickstarter period, it is still possible to play it.
You must visit the Biolumin NPC named, "Bohvo, The Egg Layer' on the Cherry Island. (40N 123E)
If an egg is available, you will be able to get nested as this adorable little dragon.
(Note that these eggs give primarily males, there's only a 5% chance to get a female)
To learn more about the dragon:
The "Melanistic" Skin
The 'Melanistic' skin can be unlocked! (per server)
To achieve this, you must;
Be born from a player nest as the Iconic skin.
Grow this same dragon in one session, without logging out.
It is recommended to get nested as a Biolumin or Acid Spitter to achieve this, these are part of the fastest dragons to grow.
Making a Nest
To make a nest, 2 dragons must courtship together first. The male is the one to start the dance, aiming the female then doing the 5 emote. (courtship)
Next, the female need to do the same, aiming for the male to continue the dance. If all is good, the female will be able to make a nest and start to lay her eggs! (the male must stay near when making the nest)
*The couple must be at the Adult stage.
PvP Mode
If you see a dragon with red shiny eyes, it means that this dragon is in PvP mode.
On 'PvE', 'DvE' or 'RP-PvE' servers, players can activate the PvP mode.
To be able to do that, you must sleep for 1 minute, then write /pvp into the chat. If you wish to deactivate it, you must do the same again.
