Standard 8 - Collaborative Relationships – The competent teacher builds and maintains collaborative relationships to foster cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social and emotional development. This teacher works as a team member with professional colleagues, students, parents or guardians, and community members.
The above is a presentation I made with some of my classmates. Together we created a lesson on Guided Discovery Learning.
Standard 8B states the teacher "understands the collaborative process and the skills necessary to initiate and carry out that process". This assignment fits perfectly in building and maintaining work relationships. Relationship building is a strength of mine, with students and staff. Being able to create this lesson about Guided Discovery with classmates shows our ability to collaborate and work effectively.
I wasn't very knowledgeable about Guided Discovery Learning and the purpose of this assignment was to work with other classmates to teach the entire class about Guided Discovery. This translates to my teaching because there will be plenty of time I need to work with coworkers on something we may not have a great knowledge base on.
Above is a paper on my philosophy. In it, I describe how relationship building is my strength and one of the most important aspects of teaching and working in a school community. I also state how it is our job as educators to see our students as individuals and help guide them as they discover their worldviews and entire the world as future leaders.
Standard 8A states the teacher "understands schools as organizations within the larger community context". Physical education content is important but helping mentor our young adults is just as important as any coursework. School is such an important part of student's lives and a huge factor in how they navigate the world and create their worldview.
It is our job as educators to help guide our students and give them a fair education. They depend on us to lead them in the right direction and because of that, schools have an enormous role in how our society is run.
