Standard 2: Content Area and Pedagogical Knowledge

Fine Arts Lesson The video above is a fine arts lesson we prepared and taught through zoom during the pandemic. The theme of the lesson is "Christmas from around the world". In the lesson, we incorporate song and dance to help encourage and engage student learning in creative ways.

Part of Standard 2: 2C states "understands the cognitive processes associated with various kinds of learning (e.g., critical and creative thinking, problem-structuring and problem-solving, invention, memorization, and recall) 2 and ensures attention to these learning processes so that students can master content standards" Acting as a student and reflecting as a student and teacher in this exercise gives me perspective on how to learn and teach in various methods. Acting as a student allowed me to have a point of view that helps me teach in a meaningful way that addresses all students.

This exercise during the pandemic helped me see teaching through the eyes of a student and allowed me to reflect on best practices.

The above Document is the instruction commentary of the Edtpa on our fine arts lesson assignment. The purpose of the assignment was to show more in-depth knowledge of physical education and how it relates to literacy and critical thinking while teaching on zoom.

Standard 2, 2D states the teacher "understands the relationship of knowledge within the disciplines to other content areas and to life applications". I learned that just teaching movement patterns is not enough. Connecting these movements with different cultures, heritages and backgrounds creates excitement for learning because it's not just a boring exercise. It's a fun way to acknowledge and learn about different cultures.

This assignment showed the importance of finding ways to incorporate literacy and deeper thinking into physical education.
