Freshman Junior Wedding
Beginning in either 1918 or 1919, the Freshman-Junior Wedding consisted of a staged wedding ceremony during which the President of the Junior Class dressed as a groom and the President of the Freshman Class dressed as a bride. Other students dressed for the occasion as members of the wedding party, with the groom’s party dressed in tuxedos and the bridal party in white gowns. Other details included a stag party, faculty serving as the parents of the bride and groom, and even a wedding cake. This tradition was intended to establish a bond between the first year and junior classes “until graduation do us part.” The Freshman-Junior Wedding was quietly discontinued in 1945.
