Political Engagement
Throughout Simmons History, students have participated in politics both within and beyond the institution. Early activism by Simmons students included participation in efforts for women’s suffrage, as well as the formation of a student government and newspaper. Students also expressed interest in World War II, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and the Iraq War through organizations, protests, and discussions. In more recent years, Simmons students have advocated for the rights of women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals, with efforts beginning in the 1960s and continuing through today.
