Operation Christmas Child Donation - November 8, 2023
These are the donations that were dropped off today. Jos and Mataya have helped to bring smiles to many people. Not just the children who will receive these items, but also the workers who are working hard to get these items shipped off to those who are in need. Way to go girls!
Brownie Badges - November 4, 2023
Jos and Mataya earned their Girl Scout Way and Philanthropist badges. The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, GS Promise and GS Law.
They learned about many Girl Scout traditions and enjoyed looking at their leader’s Brownie Girl Scout book from when she was a Brownie. The girls also created a calendar of events that they are going to share with Girl Scouts all over the United States. This calendar can be used as a resource for girls earning their Girl Scout Week 2024 patch.
Jos and Mataya learned how they can help children in other parts of the world through Operation Christmas Child. After the meeting, Mataya went shopping for items to put in shoeboxes with the money they had collected so far. While shopping, she learned that it pays to look at all options. One example is the difference in crayon options pictured below. She also saw a difference in tape and scissors!
Mataya counted the items to make sure she was in her budget and then when she had the right number of items, she went to check out! She has a bag full of goodies that she and Jos will be able to deliver to those in charge of the Operation Christmas Child shoebox program.
Cadette Badge - October 21, 2023
The Cadettes discussed what it means to practice good sportsmanship, both on and off the field. After sharing examples of good and bad sportsmanship from their own experiences, the girls went outside to demonstrate the effects of positive competition and teamwork. Even when Ms. Maxine tried to distract the girls with negative comments during the basketball game, the girls encouraged one another and still had fun.
Next, the Cadettes wrote affirmations on a hopscotch board and jumped to each square in pairs.
The day ended with a fun tug of war game, in which the girls relied on one another to achieve a common goal. After earning this badge, the girls left with a strong definition of good sportsmanship and how to apply that knowledge in competitions, in Girl Scouts, and in everyday life.
Brownie Badges - October 21, 2023
Brownies were hard at work earning their Outdoor Art Creator and Making Games badges. Here is some of the fun the girls had today. We didn't get pictures, but the girls enjoyed playing the animal "Who Am I?" game.
The girls completed a Scavenger Hunt as they walked the trail and thought about the perspective of a small animal. They chose to think about how an ant would view things if he was walking the trail with us.
The girls stopped along the way to build a home for a Brownie Elf. They worked together to gather materials and when something didn't work the way they wanted it to, they went to Plan B. Some Brownie Elf will be happy here!
While out on the trail the girls made Nature Bracelets from things they found along the trail. They found some unique things and made these colorful bracelets.
Up next, the Mystery Bag game. Can the girls tell what's inside? Mataya says glasses and Jos says a pumpkin. Are they right?
YES!
The day ended with the girls making up their own games using the items provided. These girls were quite creative!
Some of the games the girls came up with were Boot Camp Tag, Break Tag, Pin The Bow on the Gift, and Pin The Hat on Santa. They played a game of catch where if you caught the ball you had to do a dance and if you missed it you had to do a wiggle! They had to move a ball from one circle to another without using their hands, and many other games!
