May 18th was a day full of fun and looking ahead! Our Brownies earned their Dancer badge and looked ahead to Juniors by earning the Social Butterfly badge. Our 6th and 7th grade Cadettes earned a tie-dye fun patch by tie-dying a variety of items that they brought in. Our 8th grade Cadettes looked ahead by beginning their work on the Senior Women's Health badge.
GSHG High Awards Ceremony - May 5
GSHG held their High Award Ceremony on May 5th and our own Iris was awarded her Bronze Award!
Check out her Cookbook on the High Awards page!
GSHG Serendipity Troop Camp - April 12-14
Iris attended the Serendipity Troop Camp at Camp Low. The theme for the weekend was butterflies, and the campers learned all about monarch butterflies, their migration and life cycle, and ways to help support their declining population. Girls built a habitat for five pet caterpillars. When they emerge from the chrysalis, they will release them into the wild.
Another fun activity included a visit from professors and students from Georgia Southern University. The visitors presented information on a variety of STEM topics. They learned about density, magnets, circuits, electrodes, archaeology, and 3D printing. On one of the hikes on the marsh, Iris saw two dolphins playing nearby and tried to catch a picture with them.
No camp out is complete without s’mores and campfire songs, and she enjoyed treats with new friends on the last night. This weekend made Iris even more excited for summer camp!
Grow Through The Arts - April 13
Today was a time to learn how to GROW THROUGH THE ARTS! We were fortunate to find the patch program developed by Erin B as her Girl Scout Gold Award project.
The girls stayed engaged the entire time and were so focused as they had experiences with dance, theater, music, and art!
While watching the Disney's Aladdin play, girls drew these pictures. Some girls chose to draw pictures of their favorite costumes while other girls decided to make works of art.
After the play, the girls learned about dance. They learned the 5 ballet foot positions. They then used chairs as their barre and then tried some of the moves in a video provided by Erin.
After they danced, they discussed warming up their voices and then sang! Everyone enjoyed singing "If I Was Not A Girl Scout"!
Each girl received a "Grow In The Arts" box that contains a section for Dance, Theater, Music, and Art. Each section has a "Likes" card and a "Wishes" card. Girls placed their drawings behind the "like" card in the Theater or Art section depending on their drawing. They will add cards to their box with things they have done or seen (likes) and things that they hope to see or do one day (wishes).
Thank you Erin! We had a blast!
