June 3rd - 5th

Hi again,

Welcome to June and what a lovely weekend of weather we've had. We hope you have been enjoying the beautiful sunshine and having lots of fun. This week is a short week as we were due to be closed on Monday and Tuesday. We have a little less work below therefore, but as always, the suggested work is like a menu for you to choose from.

June will also be a chance to revise but also do some fun activities like we normally would in school - particularly outdoors.

Each week we will have two Virtual Sports Day activities for you to complete. If you complete all six activities and email us with pictures or drop us a few lines about them, you will receive a certificate.

Also, each week we will have a Virtual School Tour. We know these won't be as fun as a regular school tour but in this way we can travel to places that we would never be able to on a real school tour.

We hope you have a lovely week and as always, contact us at 3rdclassteachers@virginians.ie with any work, questions, photos, letters or just to say hello.

Have fun,

Mr Lyons, Ms O'Reilly, Ms McLean and Ms Peyton

Maths

Book Work - We are going to do a revision chapter this week from our Mathemagic books - Chapter 27 - Pages 127 to 130. We have covered the vast majority of this work in school already but there are a couple of questions we may not have done very much of yet. Just complete all you can do and try your best. We have also attached the answers to last weeks Money work.

Mental Maths

Please also continue with your Mental Maths books with Week 34, pages 101 to 103 in actual book or pages 105-107 online.

A sample digital book can be found here when clicking 'Preview Book': https://www.prim-ed.ie/shop/new-wave-mental-maths-3rd-class/

Answers for Week 33 and other weeks can be found here

English

We're keeping our English work very short this week by simply posting one picture that we'd like you to write about and a quick oral language game you can play against a sibling/parent/guardian or just against the clock.

With the first picture, you can simply describe the picture, write a story about it or use it as inspiration for any other style of writing you would like to do. Keep sending in the writing work you do. We love seeing your work.

Stop the Bus Oral Language Game - A lot of you might know this game already. It's very fun to play. Time yourself with different letters and try to beat your time. Or race against someone at home using the same letter.

You could even add some more questions. Some of us teachers used to play this game lots when we were younger! We love the game!

Gaeilge

Leigh an scéal seo faoi Daidí ag Cócaráil ar leathanach 30 arís. Ansin, deán iarracht é a úsáid chun labhairt i nGaeilge faoi na rudaí atá ar siúl. Mar roimhe, rinneamar é seo ar scoil an bhlian sin. Úsáid na ceistenna sin chun comhrá a spreagadh:

Read the story about Daddy Cooking on page 30 again. Then, try to use it to speak in Irish about what's going on. As before, we did this in school this year. Use these questions to make conversation:

Cé a bhí sa scéal seo? Who was in the story?

Cén lá a bhí ann? What day was it?

Cá raibh gach duine? Where was everyone?

Cad a fheiceann tú sna pictiúir? What do you see in the pictures?

Cad a bhí Daidí ag déanamh? What was Daddy doing?

Cén sórt bia a bhí Daidí ag ullmhú don dinnéir ? What type of food was Daddy preparing for the dinner?

Cén fáth a ghlaoigh Mamaí ar Dhaidí? Why did Mammy call Daddy?

SESE

This week we want you to go outside and explore nature. That could be outside your house, in your garden or on a walk nearby. We'd love you to do a Nature Walk Scavenger Hunt. We have put a simple scavenger hunt here but you could add anything else you might see to your own or make your own completely!

Or you could challenge yourself a little more and try and spot some different varieties of birds.

Have fun!

SPHE

Just as something different, we have attached a flyer for 2 competitions that Fresh Today are running at the moment. One involves drawing a picture and writing a note about why that person is special to you. The other involves showing off your talents on video. All details of how to enter are on the flyer and there's some nice prizes available.

PE

We haven't forgotten about the Virtual Explore Cavan Challenge. The challenge runs until Friday June 12th so keep going with your steps! And let us know how it's going for you. All resources available in previous week's PE posts here.

But this week, we will begin our Virtual Sports Day activities of Sprinting/Running & Long Jump. Have a look at these slides and try to complete the activities. Next week, we will add 2 more and the week after 2 more. Complete all 6 activities and send us some pictures, and we will send out a digital certificate to you to say well done.

Sports Day - Week 1

Virtual School Tour

We were meant to go to Tanagh on our school tour next Tuesday 9th June. Unfortunately, that won't be happening of course. But each week, we'll post a virtual school tour here where you can explore different places either through Google Maps or landmarks that have their own virtual tours.

We're starting off in Egypt and the Great Pyramids of Giza. You can walk around 3 ancient pyramids including Pharoah Khufu's Great Pyramid and also the Sphinx at the beginnging of the Valley of Kings. When you've explored all 4 locations, it would be great if you could write and draw about some of the things you have seen. You can use the sheets on the right for some help. Enjoy and see you next week.
