April 27th - May 1st

Hello Everyone again,

Another week and unfortunately we're still out of school and hopefully staying at home and staying safe. We're in the final week of April, which is hard to believe but thank you all in 3rd class for continuing to work hard.

We'd love to start seeing some examples of work or even just an email from everyone to say 'Hi' this week. Remember, we're available to email at 3rdclassteachers@virginians.ie so let's hear from you this week and we'll reply eventually to everyone too. If you are sending us any work, make sure you say whether you would like us to add it to our Pupil's Work page. This page can be accessed at the top right corner of the blog page.

As always the work below is a menu of work. Try to vary your subjects and do some school work each day. Having a timetable or schedule helps us a lot, so maybe even try to make a personal schedule including schoolwork, exercise, play, screentime, chores/jobs etc.

So keep in touch, try your best and stay safe.

Mr Lyons, Ms O'Reilly, Ms McLean and Ms Peyton

English

Reading Zone - Unit 28 - Click on the pages below to bring up images of the pages of Unit 28. Read the story and complete activities in your copy. If you would like to use the online textbook for Reading Zone, it can be found on the Folens site. Instructions on accessing textbooks can be found here.

Grammar - This week we will look at the homophones There, Their and They're and Two, Too and To. Use the punctuation slides below to help remind you when to use them and then try to complete the homophones activity in your copy by clicking the homophones page picture below. This activity is taken from CJ Fallon's A Way With Words 3 page 56. To access the online textbook, follow instructions here.

Writing - This week we'd like you to try and do some creative writing and be as descriptive in your story as possible. We would like you to use this picture as inspiration and possibly start your story with the following line:

"Follow me," she whispered.

Remember when you are writing to think about the 5 senses and describe not just what you see but what you hear, smell, feel and maybe even taste. Try to use ISPACE openers and lots of adjectives. We have also put some slides below with some words that might help you and some ISPACE openers. We'd really love to see some great stories by the end of the week. If you have time, you could make your story into a book with illustrations. Or if possible, use Book Creator to make a digital version of your story. Have fun writing!

Reading - Keep up your reading. We've attached 2 more books - one old and one modern. Try and do a book review on any books you read. We've again attached the sample template from last week but you don't need to use this. You could just use it for ideas.

Maths

This week we're going to mainly focus on Data revision but we're also attached a few more Time worksheets for pupils with extra time or those who think they may need a little more practice on Time.

Data Book Work

As with last week, and as we've already completed the corresponding chapter of our Mathemagic books, we have taken work from Busy at Maths 3 this week. Please click the images below to enlarge the images or use the online version of Busy at Maths 3 pg 37-40 on the CJ Fallon website. Instructions again here.

If you have time, it would be great to practise drawing some bar charts. You can make up numbers as we won't be allowed to ask many people questions at this time. Some example questions are in the slides below along with some help on Bar Charts in general.

More Time Work - We have put up some time sheets below just in case some people are running low on work or would like extra practice with time. See last week's slides to help out if stuck. Again click the images below to enlarge the images or use the online version of Figure it Out 3 pg 45 and 46 on the CJ Fallon website. Instructions again here.

Mental Maths - Please also continue with your Mental Maths books a with Week 29, pages 86 to 88 in actual book or pages 90-93 online.

A sample digital book can be found here when clicking 'Preview Book': https://www.prim-ed.ie/shop/new-wave-mental-maths-3rd-class/

We have attached the answers for Week 27 and Week 28 below to check on previous weeks' work.

Gaeilge

Déan iarracht an pictiúr seo a úsáid chun labhairt i nGaeilge faoi na rudaí atá ar siúl. Rinneamar é seo ar scoil roimh an dúnadh. Úsáid na ceistenna sin chun comhrá a spreagadh:

Try to speak in Irish about what's going on in the picture. We have already done this in school before. Use these questions to start conversation.

Cá bhfuil gach duine? Where is everybody?

Cad atá ar siúl? What's going on?

Cad a fheiceann tú sa phictiúr? What do you see in the picture?

Cad atá Síofra/Oisín/Seán ag deanamh? What are Síofra/Oisín/Seán doing?

Cá bhfuil an príomhoide? Where is the principal?

Cad atá sa chiseán? What's in the basket?

Cén sort bia atá san halla? What type of food is in the hall?

Cén duaiseanna atá ar an stáitse? What prizes are on the stage?

Cluichí agus leitheoireacht- Mar an seachtain ó shin, déan iarracht cluichí mar 'Deir Ó'Grádaigh', 'Feicim le mo shúilín bheag' agus 'Leadóg focail' a imirt freisin. Agus b’fhéidir iarracht a dhéanamh léamh an sceál géarr seo agus ceisteanna a fhreagairt.

As last week, try to play games like Simon Says, I Spy and Word Tennis. And maybe try to read the short story below and answer the questions orally.

SESE

We would like you to try and revise our work on the Ancient Egyptians this week. This could be by way of a project, report, poster, presentation or any way you can show your work. Again, we'd love to see some of this work this week and maybe put it on our Pupils' Work page.

We've included some slides on different topics like pyramids, gods, pharoahs and mummification. You could also check back on the chapter we did in Window of the World History (Chapter 4 - The Egyptians) by looking at its E-Book through the Prim-Ed website. Instructions again here.

Art

We have included slides below on Egyptian jewellery. If possible, and you have a paper plate, you could create an Egyptian necklace. We've seen before in school how Egyptians, especially Pharoahs and their families, loved gold and colourful jewels. Try and be creative when making your own Egyptian jewellery.

PE

We have been practising our Blinding Lights dance this week but need a little more practice to say we're up to standard. We'd love to see some of your videos and know this may not be possible at the moment as they may be too big for email. But keep it up and maybe, if you're better than us, you could try a new dance this week. This one's tricky but we know we have some really good dancers in 3rd Class!!

RTÉ/Cúla4 Homeschool Hubs

Both RTÉ and TG4 are showing fantastic homeschool programming each day this week. Cúla 4 Ar Scoil shows each day at 10am on TG4. RTÉ Home School Hub shows directly afterwards on RTÉ 2 at 11am. Try to tune in.
