2009 Controllers

  • 2 controllers released in 2009.

As it turns out, Model 1403 controllers were submitted to the FCC on Mar. 10th, 2009. So while all 2010+ controllers ended up being 1403/tp21 boards, the Gamestop controller that was released in Oct. 2009 is a 1403. However, the ODST that released in Sept. of 2009 was still WC01. A bit confusing as to why Microsoft did that, but it also means some White/Grey, Black/Grey, and Red/Black controllers ended up having tp21 boards and the label of Model 1403 if they were sold in the later half of 2009.

It has a custom ODST design on the front, along with the ‘Halo 3 ODST’ logo on the right side of the controller. It has a red sync button, is green front and back. Has a glossy black trim on top/matte black on bottom, black thumbsticks, d-pad, start/back, bumpers and triggers. Though, it has grey top/bottom input ports and a non-glossy guide button.

Was bundled in a big clear, plastic case along with the ODST game above it. The ODST game should have a Halo Reach MP beta logo on it, so if it's open box, that's a key way to know if the game is original to the packaging.

Exclusive to Gamestop or EB Games, bundled with a Play and Charge kit(grey cord, black battery). Also the last controller to be released with a non-shiny guide button. This happens to be just like the Black/Grey arcade pack controller released around the same time. The board is TP21, and it’s a Model 1403. Little odd they would change the innards while keeping the pre-2010 style outwardly.

It has a funky design with alternating carbon fiber black and red color pattern, a black thumbstick on the left, red d-pad and red right thumbstick. Then black start/back, bumpers, sync and triggers. Matte black bottom trim and just the standard matte black battery cover.

*Tip for any sealed owners. The alkaline batteries sit behind the controller in the packaging, if they leak, it can get inside the controller and all the way down into the board. I recently opened a package like this, and while I knew the batteries had leaked, I never knew how bad it could get. It's unfortunate that you'd have to completely unseal the packaging to pull the batteries out, but if not doing that, keep an eye on battery leak signs(white smudges in the packaging). Also handle the packaging with extra care, maybe the bouncing around in shipping caused my package to leak worse than usual. It was a big pain to clean up, and scary when I spotted it on the board, but fortunately after a good cleaning, the controller still worked. The controller leak album can be found HERE.
