First 360 controller colour change.

It's the same as the white/grey, but now in an all black shell. It released with the new black Elite 360 console on April 29th, 2007 and also sold individually or with a play and charge kit bundle that had a bit higher price($64.99). In later cases such as the 2009 Modern Warfare 2 console, there would be 2 of these black/grey wireless controllers bundled.

It’s a matte black shell front and back with a glossy black top trim('Microsoft' still engraved). Has a non-shiny guide, black start/back buttons, bumpers, sync, and triggers. Then with grey accents of grey thumbsticks, d-pad, input ports and a matte grey bottom trim. The face buttons, ABXY stayed the same, but did get a new matching black battery shell/cover and an official black Play and Charge rechargeable battery(the cord continued to stay grey).

This controller also has all the array of FCC boards inside, from the original WKS368, to the Model 1403 board that started around mid to late 2009.

Black/Grey Play and Charge Kit (2007):

Unsure why it shows this was released before the regular version.

The packaging is bigger to accommodate the play and charge kit, however it still included an empty battery cover as a nice backup when the rechargeable battery inevitably stopped working. The rechargeable battery claimed to net you 30hrs of gameplay before needing another charge, but from 1st hand experience, the battery degraded very fast, and I don't consider them to be very reliable. The cord was a standard grey, the all black card didn't come out until 2010.

Apparently some of these had misprints where Master Chief wasn't painted, leaving him black.

Halo Matte Green Wireless Controller:

  • Controller Input Colour: Grey

  • Controller Model: WSK368=TP23 board = Controller Part No: X801769-045

This one is blank green and black accents. Was never sold separately, also no matching battery compartment shell. It’s a military green shell on front and back, black thumbsticks, dpad, start/back, bumpers and triggers. Does have a red sync button(really liked this design choice). Then it has a matte black bottom strip, and grey top and bottom input ports. The top strip is glossy black with “Microsoft” in the middle and a non-shiny guide button.

If it’s a fresh pull from a console, it should be in a green plastic bag pouch, and will have a front and back sticker.

WKS368: -045, serial will start with 05.

WC01: -028, serial will start with 02.

MSK-WC01: -035, serial will start with 02.

  • Controller Model: MSK-WC01=TP23 board = Controller Part No: X801769-061(Korean/Australian)-Will have a different back label.

It’s a Pink shell on the front and back, pink start/back, bumpers, triggers, and sync. Then, grey accents of thumbsticks, dpad, input ports and a matte grey bottom strip. Does have a matching pink battery compartment shell + a matching pink official Play and Charge kit battery.

These are mostly WC01s, with rather rare to find one that is a WKS368 model.

  • These weren't considered limited even though they didn't have a very long manufacturing run(under 1yr most likely), but also wouldn’t say these are rare, just uncommon. I've seen more pinks selling on ebay than the dark blues. But could just be time specific.

I found a prototype using this pink shell, but like the light blues, since it was made in April of 2008. I suspect it was being used only as an external shell for internal board testing. There is most likely another prototype of the pink that was made before the retail release. The earliest serial I have found is 734, so it should be a few weeks before that.

Original Release Packaging:

  • Should be the only design released.

Matching rechargeable battery pack.

Matching battery shell/cover.

Matching Pink Rechargeable Battery.

WKS368: -053(very rare)

WC01: -032(most common)

  • Batteries: Energizers or Rayovac

  • Controller Input Colour: Grey

  • Controller Model: WKS368=TP23 board = Controller Part No: X801769-049, -064

  • Controller Model: MSK-WC01=TP23 board = Controller Part No: X801769-059(Korean/Australian)-Will have a different back label.

With Europe getting the Light Blue controller, this specific blue controller was released in the US and Australia(as MSK) only. Not exactly sure why AU got it, but have found it on the 2007 Xbox.com archive, so seems to have gotten a released there as well.

It’s a dark blue shell front and back, blue start/back, bumpers, triggers, sync and a glossy dark blue top trim. Then, grey accents of thumbsticks, dpad, input ports and a matte grey bottom strip. Does have a matching dark blue battery compartment shell + a matching blue official Play and Charge kit battery.

  • These weren't labeled as limited even though they didn't have a very long manufacturing run(under 1yr). These would be considered rare if you are outside the US. Otherwise not too uncommon to find. The earliest serial I have found for the dark blue is 726.

Original Release Packaging:

  • Should be the only design released.

Apparently some of these came with Rayovac batteries, otherwise, most were Energizers.

Matching sealed rechargeable battery pack.

Matching battery shell/cover.

Light Blue Wireless Controller:

  • Release Date: Oct. 26th 2007(EU), Nov. 1st, 2007(JP)

  • Regions: Only available in Europe and Japan.

  • Retail Price: £32.99(EU), ¥4,500(JP)

  • Sold As: Individual Packaging(blister plastic)

This one was specifically for Europe and Japan only(Xbox 360® ワイヤレス コントローラー (ライトブルー), North America got a darker blue instead.

It’s a light/baby blue shell on the front and back, light blue start/back, bumpers, triggers, sync and a glossy light blue top trim. Then, grey accents of thumbsticks, d-pad, input ports and a matte grey bottom strip. It comes with a matching light blue battery shell and while sold separately, has a matching rechargeable battery to use with a play and charge cable.

  • These weren't labeled as limited even though they didn't have a very long manufacturing run(I'd guess only a few months). These are very rare if you are in North or South America, otherwise in Europe and Japan I'd say these are more uncommon than rare.

I have found 2 prototypes using light blue shells, but considering they were both manufactured after these. I'm sure there must be an actual prototype of this shell before the initial release. Otherwise, the ones I found may only be for board testing, and not for a later release of more light blues.
