Matthew 6:19-21
Treasures Are in Heaven
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 4:23-25
Jesus Heals the Sick
23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. 24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them. 25 Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.
2 Peter 3:9
Jesus Showed His Disciples Patience
9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
When we look at what Jesus did when He was on earth we see that He loved people and was always helping people and teaching about God...He surely LOVED God's creation...He healed many, and devoted time to those who needed help and in healing...St. Matthew wrote that He went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people...The news spread about Him and many people were brought to Him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and He was able to heal them...He become popular in this respect and large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan start to follow Him...
And as Jesus walked to the different villages He did not have any money to speak of...To Him money was of no importance to purchase things...He said to store up the treasures of heaven, because we cannot serve both money and God...For where your treasures are, surely your heart will be there also...And Jesus taught His Disciples about tolerance, indulgence, and being patient with people...Jesus is truly our hope and an anchor to our soul, both firm and secure...
Author Walt Whitman said this, which I find similarities in Jesus' teachings and ways: “This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body.”
