New Wave Mental Maths this week is Week 20.
Fractions are a tricky topic.
Why not warm up before you dive into your work each day?
Follow the link here to Hit The Button.
From the menu, select Halves.
Next, select halves to 10.
Enjoy!
-An easy way to find 1/4 of a number is - to half it and then half it again.
-Quarters are 4 pieces. That is why there is a number 4 on the bottom.
-Just like halves all the pieces must be equal in size.
-4 quarters make one whole.
Today we are looking at:
greater than >
less than <
equal to =
Remember, the crocodile is very greedy!
He always wants to eat the bigger number.
So his mouth is always open, facing the bigger number.
If the number is the same on both sides, he splits his mouth in two! This creates the equal to sign =.
Take your time here!
Remember to get 1/4 of a number, you half it and then you half it again.
Hit The Button is great fun for learning halves and will help you to remember them quickly.
For todays Maths Activity we are going to do something a little bit different!
First up, play Hit The Button three times!
Our task for today is to... make a voice note or video for your teacher.
Explain to them what you think a fraction is, tell them how you might get a quarter of something.
Feel free to include any tips that you may have for remembering fractions.
You can use paper/ Lego/ chocolate or anything that you like to help with your explanation!
