Your sound design will be done at various stages in the animation. We start with planning, then you will record and gather assets, then you will animate your project and find you need more sounds. After we review, sounds will be recommended to make changes. This full assignment goes throughout the semester and is in these phases.
Submit your Integrated Sound Plan Animated file to the Google Drive
Submit your consolidated sound notes into your planning slides
Submit your separate sound files to your Google Drive folder. Make sure it is shared with anyone with the link. Give Susan editing capabilities: susanbonnervisualpump@gmail.com

Where we are? Environment
What is the action? Foley
What is the Emotion for a scene? Scoring
What is the Emotion for a moment? Accent
Voice does these 2 things:
Telling the story or information
Fill in the gaps we didn't accomplish above
Example: (see the Jim Crow Museum Examples)
Non-Universal Design: "Sometimes I wonder what my dog is thinking"
Integrated Audio for Universal Design: "Sometimes I stare into my dog's eyes and wonder what they are thinking"
Go through each storyboard and add the sound plan notes to the Sound section of the storyboard template. This should be in Animate at this point.
Write in your Plan your goals for Sound Design in your Google Slides separate from your storyboard so that you can see it all grouped together:
Who will do the voice-over(s)?
Who will help you record? (ie: Mike Dollar, Sound Work-Study, classmate)
Where will you record? (using your Phone, Sound Booth, etc)
Schedule your recording time(s) booth times are listed on the sound studio door. If you are an online-only student, contact Mike Dollar directly)
List your environment sounds
List your foley sounds
Get the script approved by your instructor (if you were working with a client this phase is an important review stage)
Reference your storyboard sound specifications
Record the audio for your voice
Gather scoring assets, and foley, (optional environment)
Voice
Environment: Where are we
Foley: Supporting the action
Scoring: supportive sets the tone
Accents: brief emotional tone
Music: theme music for credits or beginning
(Optional) In Garage band:
Find Assets in the loop library
compose them with the midi
use the sampler to manipulate assets
Import the assets then mix and master in Audition
Export at 24 bit 48K Wav file
Import the .wav file into Animate
The next step is Integrating Sound into Animate
Utilize the techniques demonstrated in Bill's demo
Adjust volumes to create an audio hierarchy
Voice should be the loudest
Foley, effects, and emotional accent music; second loudest (unless it is playing during a non-voiced segment... then it can be loudest)
Existing Music; quietest
Place it in your Google Drive Finals folder and name the file: FirstnameLastname-Sound.fla
After your review with Susan and fellow students, you will have some notes on what to change, add or subtract to help to tell the story better.
Meet with Mike Dollar for a second review to find out how to improve your sound and then how you can master the sound.
