Getting Invested
To become a fully warranted and invested leader, complete the Getting Started modules above, then:
Complete First Aid training
Sign-off your Personal Learning Plan with your Training Adviser.
Meet the District Warrant Committee
Ask your Section Leader to invest you who will give you badges to sew on your uniform.
Wood Badge
Within the first three years a leader must complete their Wood Badge training by completing the training modules on their Personal Learning Plan.
For step-by step instructions to view your training record on Compass, click here. To access Compass you first need to register, see here for instructions.
The Personal Learning Plan (PLP) module #2 is a discussion with your Training Adviser to plan the training you will do over the next few years.
Any prior experience / qualifications which covers any of the modules (eg a 'Skills of Leadership' type course with work) can be discussed too.
There are three steps to completing the Personal Learning Plan module.
Identify the modules relevant for your role (do this step on your own, using guidance from the link above)
Identify any further learning you need to do and which modules you already have prior experience for (do this step on your own)
Meet with your Training Adviser to agree your plan.
Please complete Steps 1 and 2 on your own and then organise a meeting with your Training Adviser who will 'validate' your Personal Learning Plan.
If you are unsure who your Training Adviser is please contact the Group Scout Leader.
The District Appointments Committee is the final step before being invested as a Full leader.
You will be invited to meet with three experienced local Scouting members to welcome you to your new volunteer role and make sure you have the support you need. The meeting is quite short (15-20 mins), informal and relaxed. The meeting is an opportunity to discuss your role, your training and to ask questions.
Ultimately the Appointments Committee will advise the District Commissioner on your suitability to become a member of local Scouting, but no need to be concerned, you'll be fine !
If you are ready to meet the District Appointments Committee please contact the Group Scout Leader who will contact the District Appointments Secretary.
Being invested as a Leader means you can wear your full Leader uniform with all the badges.
Investiture is an important ceremony where you will become a Member of The Scout Association.
You will make the Scout Promise in front of your Beavers, Cubs or Scouts so they see that you make the same promise they make.
Once you have seen the District Appointments Committee you are ready to be invested, please follow these steps:
Buy a Leaders uniform which is a shirt and trousers. You can wear a leaders uniform before you are invested if you wish so you may already have a leaders uniform. There are purchasing options here and also on this webpage.
