This is the highest award a Beaver can earn, and it's something you work on gradually throughout your whole time in the section. To get your hands on one, you’ll need complete all of the Challenge Awards, as well as any four Activity Badges of your choice (including Staged Activity Badges).
Challenge Awards are all about stepping outside your comfort zone. Try out something you wouldn't normally be interested in. Take the lead on something that scares you. Along the way, you'll unlock hidden talents and stand tall.
When you make your promise, you'll be given your Membership Award. It features a picture of the fleur de lis - an international symbol, worn by Scouts all over the world.
Joining In Awards celebrate every year you spend with us. If you're an eager Beaver, you can collect up to two during your time in the section.
Within their Colony, Beavers are part of a Lodge. A Lodge is a smaller group of Beavers, sometimes headed up by a peer leader. These peer leaders may be known as Lodge Leaders, Lodge Friends, Junior Leaders or another name.
Peer leaders are Beavers chosen to take on extra responsibilities, such as helping new starters settle in, or helping run games. This is usually for one term, so that everyone has chance to have a go. When they've finished their time as peer leader, they can proudly wear their leadership stripes to celebrate their hard work
Between the ages of 7½ and 8½, it's usually time for Beavers to become Cubs. Complete this award to get to know your new leaders, make new friends and get a taste of what Cubs is really like before the big move.
Beaver Scout Activity Badges are awarded for developing skills and interests in various areas. Each badge focuses on a specific topic, encouraging Beavers to explore new activities and learn through fun, hands-on experiences. Some examples include:
Adventure – Taking part in outdoor activities like climbing or water sports.
Animal Friend – Learning about and caring for animals.
Camp Craft – Developing basic camping skills like pitching tents and tying knots.
Creative – Expressing creativity through arts, crafts, and performances.
Experiment – Conducting simple science experiments.
Gardener – Growing and caring for plants.
Outdoor – Exploring nature and learning survival skills.
Each badge provides a great way for Beavers to gain confidence and try new things in a fun, supportive environment!
Beaver Scout Staged Activity Badges are designed to be earned across different sections (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Explorers), allowing young people to develop skills at their own pace. Each badge has multiple stages, so Beavers can start and progress as they grow. Some examples include:
Air Activities – Learning about aircraft, aviation, and flying.
Emergency Aid – Gaining basic first aid skills and knowing how to help in emergencies.
Hikes Away – Taking part in walking and hiking adventures.
Nautical Skills – Learning basic boating and water safety skills.
Navigator – Developing map-reading and navigation abilities.
Swimmer – Improving swimming skills and water confidence.
These badges help Beavers build skills they can continue to develop as they move up through Scouting!
In the centre top of the right hand sleeve, name tape to go above the district badge
These can be placed in any order as long as they follow this pattern. The Chief Scouts Bronze Award/Badge will be placed above these and can be carried onto the next section.
The membership badge needs to be placed here. The occasional badges can go anywhere in the top left hand collar bone area and usually can only be worn for 3 months.
Again, can be placed anywhere on the left-hand sleeve, its nice to place in a pattern, but doesn’t need to be. Only the highest staged badges and carried onto the next section.
These are placed above the membership badge. Only the highest number is carried onto the next section.
These badges and the JOTT badge can be worn here, but no more than the latest two that have been awarded.
These badges are now out of date and can no longer be worn on their uniform. Any old badges can be transferred onto their camp blanket.
