Moving On

Moving on to Explorers

When the time comes for you to leave Scouts, we hope you will want to move on to our Explorer Unit Britannia. The core age range for Explorers is 14 to 18 years old. Some flexibility is allowed which means that a young person can move to Explorer section from the age of 13½. But Scouts MUST move into the Explorer Scout section by the time they are 14 years old. There are currently 4 Explorer Scout Units within Folkestone, Hythe & District, who meet on different evenings during the week.

Britannia ESU

Meet at 1st Cheriton Scout Headquarters, Hawkins Road, Cheriton on a Tuesday evening 7pm to 9.30pm

Explorer Scout Units are primarily Leader led, with as much participation in decision making by young people as possible. Explorer Scouts also have the option to become Young Leaders and have their own training scheme and carry out a leadership role in a Beaver Colony or Cub Pack. Explorer Scouts have the opportunity to take part in adventurous activities, local conservation projects, creative projects, camps and expeditions; community support…the list is endless!

Explorer Scouts can gain awards – from nationally recognised governing bodies (e.g. BCU for canoeing), to Scout Awards and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
