Chapters 11-13 Analysis:
It is clear that the relationship between Winston and Julia is growing as well as their plans to fight against the party. Throughout chapter 11 there is an inside perspective on how their relationship functions. Both use the relationship as venting of passion as well as rebellion. Overall love and passion is deeply experienced in these chapters as the reader can see how true affections can overcome great obstacles. Both individuals seek extremely similar virtues of freedom, liberty, and freely expressed love. However their perspectives on those things differ. For Winston these virtues are worth fighting for to bring down the party. He strives to know the past to understand the future. Julia on the other hand strives after these virtues for selfish gain. She lives in the present and doesn't bother herself about the future or the past. Because it's irrelevant to her present situation and the rebellion she commits now. Through their union the reader can see different perspectives of what uprisings can be for people.
Along with their perspectives the division between working and upper class can be seen clearly. In this totalitarian government the divide is so large that Winston and Julia feel graced to have jam and toast. A window of what the upper class is can be seen and what privileges that Winston and Julia are being withheld from.
