Chapters 19-20:
Winston is now a crime of thought. He is in prison with the rest of the book transitioning to making book three much more of a horror theme. Considering talking is forbidden while in the cell it's a reflection of just sitting there with your thoughts, probably committing the most thought crime before being tortured to loving big Brother. It's almost a way of making them more stubborn making their torture worse, ending in them loving Big Brother even more. The razor that was given wouldn't be used for protection but for suicide because getting out isn't an option, which is also a metaphor that getting out of a government and a society isn't really ever an option. Rather your mind is corrupted into accepting what society offers and being hypnotized into believing the world we live in is normal and there is no other logical way of living.Â
