Dian Fossey

Dian Fossey was born in 1931,San Francisco (U.S.A.) and she died in 1985,in a native reserve of Ruanda -Democratic Republic of Congo.


Hers parents were biologists, she liked the biology and, especially zoology.Because of it, she got a degree in 1974 at Cambridge university but after that, she started investigating about gorillas, and this investigation took her to write a book ”GORILLAS IN THE MIST”.

She contributed to the science thinking about the behavior animal (the gorillas are not violent),their faces are not the same, they have a dozen different sounds, they are only vegetarian and thanks to her, several species were saved for the extinction in Africa centre.

For 22 years, she investigated the gorillas in Ruanda and she protected for R.D.Congo´s poaches.


Sadly, in 1985, one night she was killed in her cabin in Ruanda.Her murder is still a mystery today at the present. At first the R.D.Congo´s poaches were acusated of it towards, however a man named Mac Guire ( Dian assistant ) named the culprit but he was never found guilty of murder. Nowaday, it is thought that R.D.Congo´s poaches are the killers, but it is a mystery.


She became to be famous after his mystery death and with a film about his life named “Gorillas in the Mist”.
