She was born in Port Louis, Mauritius on 17th October 1959 and she is still alive currently she is 60 years old. Then she completed her academic training in the United Kingdom, where she received a BA from the University of Surrey in 1983 and a PhD from the University of Exeter in 1987. In the same year she joined the University of Mauritius, where she was Professor of Inorganic Chemistry and Dean of the Faculty of Science.
Subsequently, she was the general manager of the International Centre for Pharmaceutical Development (Centre International de Développement Pharmaceutique, in French).
In 2015 the majority party in Mauritius asked her to become president, and since then she is the first woman president in the island, in addition to her non-political experience, actually her aim as president is to bring her perspective and her concerns as a scientist to a wider audience.
In fact, her motto is “to achieve sustainable development goals, it is necessary to rely on science and technology” Ameenah Gurib Fakim tries to explain us that the best way to develop, for example, a country, is by the science.

She had a long career as scientist, and currently apart from being the Muritius President, Ameenah Gurib Fakim is working on many other scientist projects. Such as the investigation of new skills for global warming, and she is promoting new investment in science and technology in Mauritius and in Africa in general.
