"Finally, The Rain Doesn’t Bother Me"

Pam R. Johnson Davis (she/her) is an award-winning poet, speaker, historian, and singer/songwriter who is curious, questioning, humorous, and tender.

For once, I’m unbothered

sitting here in the comfort

of the home we made

out of nothing.

Hearing elevators ding

and doors slam

and babies cry

no longer sends me over the edge

because I know it ends.

Everything is temporary.

I hope not joy though.

Or peace.

Or how priceless it is to be safe

from the rain in a life that’s

weathered many storms.

I don’t mind a little thunder anymore -

that, too, is temporary.

Still, I remember a time

when the water was so steady,

I couldn’t see out the window -

couldn’t see light or hope.

There was no difference between the dark and damp; the day.

Thank Goddess I developed night vision.

Thank Goddess I'm at ease.

Thank Goddess for every season.

For once, I’m unbothered

sitting here in the comfort

of the home we made

out of nothing.
