A Bug in the System

Congress is infested with bugs. They run rampant and fully consume
nearly the entirety of one party. The bug, that bites its victim,
creates an itch
to win power … addicting. Even when
this political party knows they are hurting, not serving, this country,
they feel an uncontrollable urge to get the one drug that ameliorates
the itch, and allows them to win – money. Whether the oil
industry, the pharmaceutical industry, or the wealthiest individuals,
Congressional loyalties can be bought. Perhaps personal investments in
certain corporations also influence policy decisions. Once bugged …
by lobbyists … and bitten, itching to win, needing funds, needing
campaign contributions, the addicted party (primarily, but not exclusively, Republican) … will lie, cheat, and attempt to steal … to get the itch relieved, to get the “fix” … only money can provide. But while this party, in order to win,
is slowly, silently, insidiously killing our democracy by “fixing” election laws –
after a secure election in which they did not win –
… while half of our legislative branch is in the throes of
this addictive, bug-infested system, Climate Change … is imminent, happening,
and dire; … and blustery gusts of lies and ill-will spread disinformation that has already caused a violent insurrection. There is only one planet that holds our existence. As the temperature rises here and abroad, and people flee what once was home … because of the climate, and politically intolerable conditions, we must focus on the cause of much of the damage. Congress must be detoxed, … no money, minimal lobbyists. The itch must be stopped … cold turkey.
We are at a tipping point, and virulent political winds are resulting in downed power lines, where our government is scarcely functioning … when we need it most. The rich are getting richer, at the world’s expense, and do not want to change that. We need to get the bugs out of our system, to clean up democracy, and our energy sources with it.
Earning a BA in Piano Performance from Oberlin College, and MS in Human Services-Counseling at National-Louis University, has given me insight into the inner music of our hearts and minds. Today we face a crisis in their regard: The ordered harmony in Nature, our own inner nature, included, is now imperiled. The climate we all face – of intensifying extremes in politics and the weather – presents an existential threat to democracy and life, as we know it. Our response must affirm both.
