Launch your healthcare career with the ECHO program, a year-long pathway that gives students hands-on experience and real-world clinical skills. In ECHO I, students participate in two periods per day and complete 40 hours of off-site clinical experience, as well as hands-on lab practice. Students become CPR certified and are eligible for dual credit through BHC (8 credits). Upon successful completion, students can take the Illinois state CNA certification test and continue to ECHO II.
ECHO II is designed for students who are certified CNAs and builds on the skills gained in ECHO I. This program includes one period per day of instruction and offers dual credit for Medical Terminology (3 credits). Students learn to think like a nurse through patient simulations, job shadowing in hospitals, and instruction in advanced clinical skills. The program also introduces phlebotomy and EKG basics, preparing students for further healthcare education and careers.
Our Exploring Careers in Health Occupations (ECHO) program provides students with the unique opportunity to step outside the classroom and into a real healthcare setting. Through clinical rotations at local healthcare facilities, students observe and participate in daily tasks alongside medical professionals.
These hands-on experiences allow students to apply what they’ve learned in class while gaining valuable insight into the many career paths within the medical field. From assisting with patient care to understanding the inner workings of a healthcare team, students develop practical skills, professionalism, and confidence.
By the end of the program, ECHO students don’t just understand healthcare, they’ve lived it. This real-world experience gives them a head start as they pursue further education or careers in the medical field.
