Step into the rewarding world of early childhood education. This two-level program gives students hands-on experience and the credentials needed to work with young children. In ECE I, students participate in three site days per week, learn lesson planning, maintain an ECE I binder, and complete essential training, including Shaken Baby Syndrome, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and mandated reporting. ECE I aligns with the Gateways to Opportunity Level 1 Certificate, providing students with a strong foundation in early childhood education.
In ECE II, students advance their skills through four site days per week and focus on childhood development. They create a comprehensive ECE II portfolio, continue lesson planning, and complete additional training, including Gateways to Opportunity programs, Welcoming Each and Every Child, CPR and First Aid certification, and Food Handling certification. ECE II prepares students for the Childhood Development Associate (CDA) credential and equips them with the practical experience and knowledge needed to pursue a career in early childhood education.
Our Early Childhood Education program goes beyond textbooks and theory by giving students the chance to gain real experience in the field. Throughout the week, students spend time working on site in local early childhood centers and classrooms. Under the supervision of their instructor and site mentors, they actively engage with young children, assisting with lessons, leading activities, and supporting daily routines.
This hands-on approach allows students to connect what they learn in class directly to real-life situations. They build skills in child development, communication, and classroom management while also discovering the rewards and responsibilities of working in education. By the time they complete the program, students have meaningful, practical experience that sets them apart as they move on to college or careers in teaching and childcare.
