Our mind is a powerful place where we are the architects and authors. Much like our bodies, our mind can be trained and exercised to promote growth and improvement. This is an essential practice of personal wellness. We must take the time to practice and train our minds. Below you will find resources and strategies to help with this journey.
A few important considerations:
1.) Limit your exposure to media/news and social media. It is important to be informed but an over saturation of this content can be harmful to your mental health. Try to find a healthy balance and remember, everything in moderation students.
2.) I am available, as always to help you process thoughts, feelings, concerns, problems, etc. Please do not hesitate to contact me.
3.) We must recognize what is within our control. Energy and effort is best spent on items within our control.
Experts are pointing to a daily schedule and routine as an effective method to maintain wellness during this pandemic. With uncertainty around us, we can be certain about our schedule, delivering consistency and effective practices into our lives. Healthy habits combined with an effective plan for when life gets difficult, will help ensure our whole person wellness moving forward. Consider educating yourself further on areas of personal interest. These do not have to be related to school. For example, in my free time I enjoy learning more about golf, cars/motorcycles, aviation, history, etc. Additionally, I enjoy both educational and entertainment content from various streaming platforms. Podcasts are a great way to dive into areas of interest. There is a wealth of great content out there to help you explore your interests!

Mindfulness mediation is a practice supported by a growing body of empirical research. This practice serves to improve our lives. Simply put, it is the practice of paying attention. There are numerous emotional and physical benefits to practicing mindfulness. Recently, LeBron James was featured as a spokes person for the Calm app, which features mindfulness training. Included is a TedTalk about the research and benefits of mindfulness. Also included are links to several mindfulness applications and resources. Consider trying one or more of the following resources.
Students, you have a unique opportunity to learn, develop, and refine skills moving forward. I would encourage you to use the "My Skills" assessments in XELLO to explore skills related to the world of work. Share your findings with me and we can develop a plan to help you explore and grow as individuals. Consider starting a new hobby like painting or gardening. I cannot do either of those.
