this as a policy speech about
an issue you want to change
you can prove it's a problem
you have a feasible plan to fix it
you know the points against your plan & you can refute them
topic is very narrow & specific
your plan has to be able to be carried out
think like a legislator lobbying for a change in a policy
someone else can legitimately argue the other side or provide a different fix for the problem
if that cannot be done, then it's not a persuasive topic that works for this assignment
it might work as a persuasive essay, but not for this Monroe's style speech
yes, but you'll need to modify it to fit Monroe's
topic may need to be narrowed down
you may need more research to fit your plan
checklist/rubric evaluation: click here
view a video about the rubric: click here, but beware, this will take you 13-15 minutes - have your copy of the rubric in front of you
vague checklist (WSU Tech's version: click here, but we are not using this one)
it is 3-5 minutes in length; I am not particular on the time for this one unless you leave out an entire chunk of the speech
2 different visual aids
5 source credibility-style citations during the speech
this is the semester test for 10% of your grade
these are the minimum tasks, so keep working on the next thing ~ use class time wisely
depending on your focus level, working at home might be required since some of you will miss prep time due to being out of class for school activities
the teacher will not be giving specific ideas for how write or design this once your topic is picked - it is your final, so it's your job to figure it out
it'll take us 3-4 class periods and go into next week
goal: FALL - done two weeks before Thanksgiving Break
