Implementation and research of teaching:
The student teacher selects, uses and researches appropriate and varied practices, strategies, methods and materials to promote student learning, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
During my teaching practice, I demonstrated the ability to select and use appropriate strategies and methods to promote learning and the development of critical thinking in my students. As part of this commitment, I conducted an Action Research titled The Role of Family in Academic Success: A Study on Parental Engagement.
This project allowed me to explore how family support impacts students’ academic performance. To carry out the research, I sent a letter to parents explaining the study’s objectives and involved my students, who completed a Google Form with questions designed to gather information on their perceptions of parental involvement. Through this process, I collected valuable data that not only strengthened my understanding of family dynamics but also helped me adjust my practices to better address my students’ needs.
Additionally, I integrated the results of this research into my planning, using strategies that encouraged active student participation and critical thinking. For example, I designed activities that allowed students to reflect on the importance of emotional and academic support at home, promoting enriching discussions on how to overcome challenges and solve problems collaboratively.
This project not only demonstrated my ability to research and reflect on my practice but also reinforced my commitment to implementing evidence-based strategies to maximize my students’ learning and overall development.
To demonstrate mastery of this fourth competence, which involves research in teaching, I am sharing a presentation I created for two of my youth groups during my role as a group facilitator in January 2024.
With this evidence, I showcase my full command of various skills integral to this competence. Mastery of this competence requires the ability to research different teaching methods. Therefore, I challenged myself to create a presentation, incorporating elements I was not accustomed to using in my work area. This included incorporating various methods such as videos explaining the topic, engaging activities, and informative content, collectively forming the class material for discussion. This approach fulfills the skill of providing students with diverse tools to aid their learning, fostering reflection and critical thinking. As a result, I received positive feedback from the students and observed increased motivation among them, fostering interest in subsequent class sessions.
To demonstrate the relevance of this evidence to competence, it's essential to highlight the significant learning acquired through implementing this novel educational approach. Most notably, it reinforced the understanding that student engagement and motivation can be effectively fostered through methods beyond traditional approaches like textbooks or lectures.
Our professional reflection of the mastery of professional competences was based on the group discussion of each of them, as set out on the academic competencies page. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, this competence gives us inalienable knowledge of the profession. It makes it easier for us to resolve conflicts, identify effective teaching techniques, methodologies and practices. It also helps us promote curiosity in our tuition.
To prove mastery of this competence, I can present evidence of articles that I wrote for the newspaper La Voz de Llorens. Newspaper of which I am co - founder, perform multiple items and help mostly with the organization. For five years I was part of the Keystone leadership group at the Boys and Girls Club in my community. Where in addition to doing many other projects, I became vice president after my second year and during the last two official president.
In this group I carried out many tasks and many projects with my colleagues, but during the last three years we created a newspaper called La Voz de Llorens. In this we were in charge of making visible the positive aspects of our community, proving how wrong the media is regarding the type of people who live in a residential area. Due to my commitment and the position that had within the group, it also fell on my greatpart of the organization plus I liked to write articles. What me wear to create both, alone and withe others, several of the articles that were published at the end, and this was the case during the first three editions.
Also, as far as research is concerned, I can prove mastery thanks to the course on Philosophical Foundations of Education with María García. In this course, as an end-of-year project, the teacher asked us towe createour own model of education. For this, my colleagues and I had to investigate different philosophers in the field of education to evaluate what was in line with our vision in the system that I wanted to present. This job just mehelpedto reinforce the idea that I have had of creating my own education model and being able to implement it in the different schools, so enjoyment much do this work. That process of researching, debating and analyzing the type of tools that we could use when teaching our students was very enriching.
Although these great experiences that I had helped me develop, they also motivated me to want to go further. So I feel that this competition will dominate it more when starting next academic year, startsmy second concentration in the area of communications. Since I hope that it can help me to develop in a better way my research skills and my analytical capacities.
