Knowledge Perspectives
What is it?
Knowledge Perspectives is a two-year course that emphasises the development of interdisciplinary understanding and skills. Students are encouraged to inquire into current issues, both local and global. They will evaluate information critically, from a range of perspectives and sources, and explore lines of reasoning. Students will take control of their own learning and develop independence and leadership through individual and collaborative projects.
Knowledge Perspectives prepares students for success in the IB Diploma courses, particularly Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and Community Activity Service, and beyond.
Learning how to learn
Students will explore local, national and global issues using multiple perspectives and develop Approaches to Learning skills (Research, Thinking, Self-Management, Communication, Social)
Students will acquire, develop and apply a range of skills including:
Research: information literacy, interpreting and judging information
Thinking: analysing and evaluating new perspectives, developing lines of reasoning, flexible thinking, ways of knowing
Reflection (self-management): considering the processes and outcomes of learning
Communication: reading, writing and using language to gather and communication information
Collaboration (social): working effectively with others to achieve a common outcome
Transfer (thinking): applying learning from familiar to unfamiliar situations
Organisation (self-management): managing time and tasks effectively
Creativity (thinking): generating novel ideas, creating high-quality products appropriate to the audience
