High School Course Selection

Choosing my Year 10 Pathway

We understand that the subject selection process for students joining Year 10 can be complex and challenging. It represents the first time that many students have had some agency and choice over their learning pathway. This can be both exciting and daunting. We have an experience team of educators to support your child in making good choices. Any one of their subject teachers would be willing to discuss their suitability to follow their particular subject in Year 10 either to IGCSE certification or as a High School course.

In addition, Mrs. Dawn Waring (Deputy Head of Secondary) and Mrs. Meredith Hauge (Head of Year 9) are available for individual consultations and discussions to help guide your child to a pathway for success.

Making Good Choices

When considering which subjects to choice, you should consider some of the following questions:

  • What are my areas of strength? What are my passions?

  • How do I learn best and which courses would suit how I learn?

  • Do I need IGCSE certificates as part of my future?

  • Would I benefit from courses with coursework components?

  • Do I have a balanced and well-rounded programme?

  • What does my subject teacher say about this course and my suitability?
