Historically, colonial mentality is the consequences of colonialism in which colonists are seen as superior. (Nikalje & Ciftci, 2021). Hundreds of years of colonization by Spain, Japan, and the United States have resulted in a seemingly uniform colonial attitude among Filipinos, with many unaware of the impact on their daily lives. Many Filipinos suffer from a loss of culture or language, particularly those who do not live in the Philippines and instead dwell in the United States or Canada, both of which have considerable Filipino communities. (Camelia Heins, 2022). Moreover, this ongoing twist between Filipino and Colonizers' cultural norms and shapes, reflects in Filipinos' everyday lives, relationships with one another, and interactions with the rest of the world. (David, Sharma, & Petalio, 2017)

Colonial mentality is frequently used by Filipinos to describe various parts of our culture and shared experiences, ranging from a fondness for "imported" goods to a desire to travel overseas (Lasco, 2021). It also refers to a people's embedded sense of inferiority as a result of colonization (Alfonso-Gregorion, 2022). This mentality results in disowning one's true identity and claiming oneself as part of another race. In addition, colonial mentality is usually perceived in the fascination of Filipinos, especially girls, to have whiter skin as a beauty standard nowadays.
