A. JOB SUMMARY
The Nurse VI monitors and supervises the activities of the nursing unit, designs programs, formulates guidelines and standards of the unit. She/ he facilitates smooth communication and interaction among staff and allied medical personnel to assure delivery of quality nursing care. Consults / assists the Deputy Director for Nursing to ensure the implementation of standards, programs and
policies in the designated area of assignment.
B. STATEMENT OF DUTIES
1. Clinical Nursing Management
a. Implements nursing standards
b. Identifies nursing issues and concerns related to the implementation of standards, policies and procedures.
c. Reviews/ monitors compliance to standards.
d. Monitors nursing care rendered
e. Evaluates plans, programs, and resources for patient care and modify as necessary.
f. Interprets policies and procedures pertinent to nursing care.
2. Human Resource Management
a. Assesses capabilities of personnel based set criteria and ensures that prescribed
functions/responsibilities of various nursing personnel categories are followed.
b. Develops strategies for evaluating nursing performance.
c. Counsels / resolves work related employee concern.
d. Disseminates information to personnel on management matters, research/audit results, continuing education and in- service training program and pertinent memoranda
e. Makes on the spot decisions for urgent matters.
f. Creates an environment that promotes open communication and conducive to good working relationship among the nursing personnel and other members of the health team.
g. Ensures a relevant and appropriate manpower resource allocation.
h. Recommends staff for promotion.
i. Encourages team work towards attaining high quality patient care.
j. Acknowledges and gives rewards and recognition as motivation to personnel.
3. Unit Management
a. Determines budget proposal/ budget allocation to carry out nursing operations in the clinical units.
b. Prepares the required reports and statistics for administrative purposes.
c. Monitors the proper allocation of resources.
d. Develops and adopts work mechanisms to improve nursing care rendered.
e. Ensures adequate staffing distribution.
4. Education and Teaching
a. Assesses training needs of nursing personnel.
b. Develops programs for professional growth.
c. Evaluates training programs with the DNET.
d. Acts as resource persons for nursing personnel, trainees and students.
5. Research
a. Identifies nursing problems requiring investigative studies.
b. Participates in the research process and implements results of studies which are
appropriate to patient care.
6. Networking / Linkages
a. Establishes mechanisms that will ensure an open communication with the
medical/paramedical and administrative personnel.
b. Participates in local and national health related projects and activities.
C. BASIC RELATIONSHIP
• Reports to the Deputy Director for Nursing.
D. QUALIFICATIONS
• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing with at least nine (9) units
in management course at the graduate level
• Experience: Three (3) years of experience in general nursing service
administration
• Training: 16 hours of relevant training
• Eligibility: R.A. 1080
