IO3- FILE: Framework for Intersectoral Learning Experiences Development
FILE is coordinated by the Imperial College London
Development and dissemination of a framework to guide and structure the preparation and implementation of intersectoral learning schemes and tools including learning outcomes and assessment criteria, syllabus design principles and structure, pedagogical methods and guidelines.
This intellectual output (IO) aims at developing a framework to guide and structure the preparation and implementation of intersectoral learning schemes and tools.
In particular the FILE comprises the following components:
IO3.1-Learning outcomes and assessment criteria. The definition of suitable learning outcomes and assessment criteria that stand in close relationship to these outcomes are essential to distinguish industrial placements from casual work experience and should guide the student towards obtaining maximum benefit from the experience. The tools for assessment should be varied in order to encourage understanding and assimilation for a diverse student cohort.
IO3.2-Syllabus design principles and structure. Guidelines will be developed on how to build a curriculum to prepare and support the student cohort in finding fit-for-purpose industrial placements. Properly prepared and supported students will gain more from their placement experience and will be better prepared to contribute effectively to the workplace.
IO3.3-Pedagogical methods and guidelines: Defining the placement rules against which academic standards are monitored and upheld. The method of teaching in both academic and industrial setting needs to be adjusted in order to ensure mutual agreement, quality assurance and effectiveness of learning outcomes. Objectives need to be evaluated and fine tuned to be in line with teaching and learning expectations.
IO3.4-Identifying and shortlisting strategies to build links between industry and university. Existing links between academia and industry will form the basis for the placement. These links can be both formal and informal offered via different sources within the academic staff cohort as well as via tapping into the alumni network. Extension of the network will be ensured via the involvement of JA.
