If any MIDB staff has reason to believe that a person has gone missing they must take immediate action to activate a “CODE PINK,” react immediately, and respond according to their training and job duties. Possible reasons for a Missing Persons include but are not limited to,
Elopement
Wandering
Hiding or playing by hiding
Purposeful decision to leave appoint meant including non-compliance
Abduction
Elopement. refers to a patient leaving a medical facility unsupervised and unnoticed, especially when they are unable to make safe decisions on their own due to medical conditions.
Wandering. involves a patient moving about the facility in a confused or disoriented state, potentially leading to them exiting the facility.
If the child elopes or wanders off, report the situation to the Research Check-In Visitor Desk orally, by phone call (Visitor Desk 612-626-6441), or with handheld radios immediately.
The PA Teams will communicate a Code Pink page, Repeated twice,
“Attention, Attention CODE PINK CODE PINK . A (infant, toddler, child, teen, or adult,) described as (age, clothing description, notable accessories e.g. backpack), they were last seen in the (location, nearest door number, and minutes since last seen). Please go to your nearest CODE PINK door and follow posted directions.” BRT and Security assemble in the lobby BRT Security assemble in the lobby
Note: Additional descriptors (name, behavioral characteristics) can be provided over radios to search team
Call 9-1-1 if you have reason to believe that a crime has been committed (e.g., abduction), the child has left the MIDB property, or there is immediate danger to the missing individual or someone else.
Updates will be communicated every 10 minutes overhead until the “all-clear” is called.
Do not return to normal business until the “all-clear” announcement is called.
BRT Scenario: If the Behavior Response Team was called overhead after a duress-button activation and they discover that the emergency is a missing person and not behavior only they will quickly notify the Visitor desk to announce the Code Pink and cancel the BRT-only response. Note: BRT buttons can be found in the Clinic, CNBD, Blood Draw Lab, and at all welcome desks
The Search-Team will always include onsite Uniformed Security, BRT members, and the Visitor Coordinator posted at the Visitor Desk.
Scenario Specific Team Members:
Clinic Staff:
If the Code-Pink originates from a clinical appointment the Provider and any additional clinic staff will assemble at the Visitor Desk and be assigned a radio or be paired with a Search Team member.
Research Staff:
If the Code-Pink originates from a research appointment the Research Coordinator at the visit/appointment will assemble at the Visitor Desk and be assigned a radio or be paired with a Search-Team member.
What if the family members of the Missing Person are in the lobby before or after appointments?
In the event the report of a missing person comes from a family member/guardian who is not under the care of a Provider/Clinic Staff or Research Coordinator/ research Staff the Search Team (BRT and Security) will take the lead on response and coordinate responsibility over “sib-sitting” and guardian assisted searches.
Action Steps:
Immediately assemble at the Research Check-In Visitor Desk in the Building A Main Lobby
The Visitor Coordinator will ensure all persons have a handheld radio or are paired with a team member.
Search team should coordinate with each other and prioritize search areas accessible by the missing person such as, public and single restrooms, wellness and lactation rooms, parking ramp, and exterior grounds
Use handheld radios to coordinate re-unification and/or escort off property of the found individual.
Do not return to normal business until the “all-clear” announcement is called.

All office staff are requested to go to their nearest CODE PINK Door identified with a triangle shaped decal and door number signage.
NOTE- If a door is being monitored, please go to the next nearest unmonitored exterior door.

Wait for the "ALL CLEAR" announcement
Call for help at 612-626-6441 if you believe you saw the person.
