Hi [name],
In response to your request for a Handshake account, I've set you up with a [TYPE OF ACCOUNT: career services and/or student] account(s). Glad to have you on board!
Accessing your accounts
You can now login with your UMN email and password at umn.joinhandshake.com. [OPTIONAL] You can switch between your student and career services accounts by going to the drop-down menu under your name/initials in the upper right hand corner and selecting Switch Users. Note: you may be automatically logged into your student/alumni account first and then need to switch.
While advising students, you can also go to a student's profile from your career services account and select View As Student.
Employer Account [OPTIONAL]
Follow these instructions for setting up your employer account. OR Follow [this link to set up an employer account connected to YOUR COLLEGE - insert invite link for the college/department] (This is if you would like all staff in your college to connect to one account for your college - provide the invite link). It may take a couple days to approve your account, but then you will be able to post positions. For guidance, Handshake's Help Center is a good resource, and we have a job posting tips article.
Handshake Canvas Course
We have a canvas course for navigating the admin side of Handshake that we've added you to. I've also added you to the Handshake shared google drive and Handshake google site, which houses documents referenced in the course. The course is broken up modularly, and we typically recommend [career coaches (update recommended modules based on role)] complete the following modules:
Account Setup
Handshake Orientation
Students & Alumni module
Events and Fairs
Depending on your role you may also want to complete:
Marketing to Students
Experiences
Your Handshake Superuser
As previously mentioned, [Name] is your point person in [college] for all things Handshake. She's the best person to go to first with questions, but I'm also always happy to help!
I hope this helps as you work with students, and please reach out if you have any questions!
Best,

Hello,
Thank you for your interest in a mock Handshake account for advisors. It's great when advisors are equipped to help students with Handshake. If you're interested in a Handshake overview, we have a slidedeck about Handshake for advisors and faculty.
You can now login with your UMN email and password at umn.joinhandshake.com.
This will give you the same experience as our students.
I hope this helps as you work with students, and please reach out if you have any issues or questions!
Best,

Dear [Staff & Faculty],
[insert office name here] has been notified that representatives from certain organizations are requesting time to present in classrooms regarding their internship opportunities. Many times, these organizations say they are already working with career services, even though often they are not.
The organizations’ typical approach is to ask to administer a "quick survey about internships" before class. The “internship opportunities” usually do not meet University of Minnesota Career Services’ standards for internships.
Career Services’ guidelines for on-campus recruiting recommends all employers, including students who may be recruiters, engage with Employer Relations Staff prior to recruiting on-campus. Our staff will cover Career Services’ best practices and any policies for recruiting on-campus.
If these organizations cannot meet Career Services’ on-campus recruiting guidelines, they loose access to our services, including being prohibited from posting jobs or internships on Handshake, among other recruiting opportunities at the U of M.
Employers speaking to classes can be a beneficial learning opportunity for students, however we recommend employers that align with Career Services’ processes, policies, and best practices.
If you have questions about the legitimacy of an employer’s approach or any opportunities they are providing, please contact [insert contact information here].
Best,
[insert name here]
We were able to find procedure and policy information regarding distribution of materials in University facilities. This may help with organizations banned from using University of Minnesota Career Service resources (i.e. Southwestern Advantage, etc.)
In the ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE - Distributing Publications policy, it states: "In University facilities, handout distribution is restricted to foyer and lobby areas as described in the policy. Distributing published materials in stairways, classrooms, offices, hallways, doorways, ramps, elevators, or escalators is prohibited."
In the ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY - Distribution of Information through Publications, Banners or Chalking, there are two useful statements: "Within University academic facilities, handout distribution is allowed only in lobby or foyer areas. Handout distribution is prohibited in nonacademic University facilities (athletic facilities, student unions, Ted Mann Concert Hall, Northrop Memorial Auditorium, etc.) including all University parking areas, parking ramps, and surface lots, except with permission from Facilities/Plant Management or unit director. Facility managers may establish distribution-free zones within the facility." And... "Only registered, recognized student organizations, faculty, staff, or University departments may chalk on University properties."
With both of these statements, you will notice that distribution is limited to FOYER and LOBBY areas.
After you gather information about how representatives have violated any of these policies, your next step will be to contact the representative.
