No reporting knowledge necessary. Quickly access Handshake numbers in three ways:
UMN Handshake Data Dashboard: Historic Handshake data from 2018. Updated each semester.
Quick downloads: Look for quick download, download csv, or a download icon in many of Handshake's sections such as Jobs, Alumni, Fairs, and more.
Complete the Handshake Academy course: Access the metrics that matter.
Scheduling reports and saving reports is recommended to get the most out of the feature.
UMN naming convention for reports: college - name/purpose
Ex: CEHD - Career Fair Attendance 2021
Share reports and use other's reports!
When you build a report, use the setting Share with school when possible
Search for and use the duplicate feature to modify and save another office's report without affecting the original.
Watch out for Reporting meetings among the Handshake Users Group. We periodically meet to discuss best practices.
*Please share your tips and tricks as you discover them at our monthly Handshake meetings or email handshake@umn.edu.
Date filters: Using 'in the past [year]' filter will only include data from the current year. For example, a report filtering for 'in the past 1 year' pulled in April 2024, will pull data from January to April 2024, not from April 2023-April 2024.
Attendee vs Student Attendees (Events): Use attendee count, not student attendee count. According to Handshake, student attendee count isn't accurate.
And/or logic: Or logic does not work within a field. For example, you can't run a report on events with 'this' label OR 'that' label. Handshake support can typically build the report for you with calculated fields if you reach out to them.
