Research Molecular Biologist, USDA-ARS Warmwater Aquaculture Research Unit
Caitlin completed her PhD in Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University, where her dissertation research focused on companion animal health. It was during graduate school that she was first introduced to aquaculture and began getting involved in aquaculture research. Her work now involves utilizing her background in molecular biology and bioinformatics to improve catfish production efficiency. Her primary interests are the bacterial communities relevant to catfish production, including those in the pond, in the intestinal tracts of catfish, and the communities associated with relevant zooplankton taxa.
Dr. Older is also involved in graduate student research, assisting several Mississippi State University College of Forest Resources and Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine graduate students on their projects, particularly those that involve microbiomes, bioinformatics and genomics.
