BIOSKETCH

Dr. Stephen Reichley is an internationally-recognized expert in aquatic health and food security. He is an Assistant Professor at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine. He serves as the Associate Director of the MSU Global Center for Aquatic Health and Food Security, Head of the FAO Reference Centre on AMR and Aquaculture Biosecurity, a Co-PI and Deputy Director of the USAID-funded Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Fish, and manager of the Gulf Coast Aquatic Health Program. In addition to these roles, Dr. Reichley is involved in diagnostic, research, and teaching activities.

 

Dr. Reichley obtained his BS in Biology with a Chemistry Minor from The University of Findlay, DVM from The Ohio State University, and PhD from Mississippi State University. His PhD dissertation is titled “Advancing Our Understanding of the Edwardsiella”.

 

After obtaining his PhD, Dr. Reichley served as the Director of R&D and Fish Health for Clear Springs Foods, the largest producer of rainbow trout in the U.S. In that role, he reorganized the research and development program, enhanced laboratory services, and strengthened clinical fish health services. He had oversight of the R&D program, including internal and external projects; responsible for the health and welfare of 45+ million fish across brood, hatchery, and grow-out operations; and directed the Diagnostic and Research Laboratory as well as the Water Quality and Analytical Laboratory providing lab services to R&D Operations, Farm Operations, and Plant Operations.

 

Dr. Reichley is a Certified Aquatic Veterinarian and Adjunct Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in the Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. He has extensive experience in the culture of many aquatic species throughout the United States and abroad having worked in 19 countries. He has numerous scientific publications related to aquatic health and has given lectures and seminars throughout the world for veterinarians, veterinary students, and those working in aquaculture.

 

Dr. Reichley is a Past President of the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association and previously served as a Director-at-Large for the American Association of Fish Veterinarians. He is a member of American Fisheries Society Fish Health Section where he chairs the Technical Standards Committee and is a member of the Executive Committee.
