See the World

Many transfer students think they don’t have enough time left to study abroad. However, U-M offers a wide variety of programs that cover every region of the world, price range, and length of time. The Center for Global and Intercultural Study (CGIS) is a great place to start looking into your study abroad options. Their online database is known as MCompass and allows students to search programs by term, country, and a series of other categories. CGIS also offers informational "First Step" sessions Monday through Friday from 5:00-5:30 p.m. in the CGIS office, located at 255 Weiser Hall.

If you are looking for a very short study abroad opportunity, the Global Course Connections program is an amazing opportunity. Global Course Connections (GCC) programs include two components: an on-campus course during winter semester and a 3-4 week off-campus field experience that takes place during the following summer. The field experience is a short extension of the on-campus course during which particular themes and topics introduced on campus are explored.

Planning to take summer term classes on campus? Perhaps a short study abroad program during the month of May would fit into your schedule. The Maize Away program allows you to take a three-credit, three-week course abroad. Topics and locations vary from year to year and some programs are led by UM faculty whereas others are taught by local faculty.

Regardless of where or how long you choose to study abroad, talk to CGIS about the financial aid options available to reduce the cost of your trip, or check out the Global Michigan website for additional funding sources.
