UROP's Changing Gears: A High Impact Learning Opportunity for Transfer Students

Looking to get connected on campus? Build your network? Gain professional experience and transferable skills? Engage in groundbreaking research? Connect with other transfer students? Then the UROP Changing Gears program is for you.

Changing Gears is a program offered by the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) that connects community college transfer students, as well as transfers from 4-year institutions, to ongoing research projects in their fields of interest. You gain valuable academic and professional skills to assist in your transition to Michigan, while at the same time receiving academic credit or financial compensation through the work-study program.

UROP's Changing Gears Program provides Community College Students with:

  • Advanced academic and professional skills for a smoother transition to U-M
  • Relationships with faculty mentors, research scholars, staff and alumni
  • A community of transfer students facilitated by transfer peer advisors
  • Access to hands-on research opportunities in a wide variety of fields
  • Connections to resources and opportunities for professional development, careers and graduate school.
