Finding Community Through MESA

The Office of Multi-Ethnic Students Affairs (MESA) serves students in multiple ways by providing intercultural leadership development, social justice education, and peer mentorship opportunities. MESA works diligently to make the University of Michigan a more inclusive campus and provides transfer students the opportunity to take part in all these services and has four unique mentorship programs that may further assist you in building a sense of community and belonging on campus.

  • A.L.M.A. (Assisting Latinos to Maximize Achievement) Program
  • S.I.B.S (Support for Incoming Black Students) Program
  • Arise (South Asian Awareness Network)

Jacqueline Saldana, a transfer student, took part in the A.L.M.A. Program and this is what she had to say, “I was invited to participate in a peer mentorship program through the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs. My program helped me meet current students, familiarize myself with campus, and learn about life at Michigan from those who know it best. I transitioned to U-M smoothly because I gained confidence and felt that I was a part of a community.”

All programs are open to all students regardless of race or ethnicity. If you’re interested in gaining any additional information please visit their website www.mesa.umich.edu or contact MESA at mesa.uofm@umich.edu or 734-615-6842.
