Oh The Places You'll Go!

In a few short semesters, you'll have a degree from the University of Michigan! Where will it take you?

With Fall semester quickly approaching, you’re probably thinking about preparing for classes, but don’t forget to engage with the University Career Center to get started thinking about career options and looking for internships and jobs! The University Career Center, located in the Student Activities Building (SAB), is your spot to:

  • Connect with employers and the world of work
  • Explore your career interests
  • Build your own "professional brand"
  • Create a strategy for success

Follow these four tips to jump into the resources right away!

1. Check out Handshake! Handshake is the online, one-stop shop for career exploration. Login with your U-M ID to:

  • Find jobs and internships, job and grad school fairs listed, and more than 200 new postings added per day!
  • Register for events like our "Resume Lab" or "Internship Lab" -- hands-on working sessions to polish that resume and develop your job search skills.
  • Schedule appointments with Career Coaches for guidance on considering career options, how to get started, and more!

2. Plan to go to the Fall Job and Internship Fair! The University Career Center offers lots of events, including the popular Fall Job and Internship Fair coming up on September 25th and 26th. At the fair, students can connect with employers right on campus to search for jobs or internships. To learn more about the Job and Internship Fair, as well as other fall events, please visit the University Career Center’s website. Not sure how to market your experience as a transfer student? Be sure to set up an appointment with the University Career Center staff for some advice!

3. Visit Employers to learn more about potential careers on an Immersion™! During an Immersion™, you can visit such companies as Google, Doc Network, Detroit Red Wings and Bloomingdales. On visits, you can:

4. Grab new clothes for future interviews and events! Students have more confidence when they look and feel their best, so the University Career Center Clothes Closet:

  • Offers more than 2,000 items of clothing, both professional and business casual, that you can select from and keep, for free!
  • Is available by appointment or at select events
