In-Person Plant Clinics

Regularly scheduled plant clinics are located throughout Montgomery County.  The busiest season is April through September.  Click the link to the left of this text to view a video showcasing one of our many plant clinics.

If you would like to diagnose a plant-related problem then...

bring a plant or insect sample with you to one of our plant clinics. It will make it much easier for us to provide you with a diagnosis of your gardening problem. It is very helpful to gather a clear plant or insect sample and provide information about sun and shade, slopes, and water flow information. To take a plant sample, it is most helpful to bring a branch with multiple leaves. If the plant is flowering, bring a branch with a flower.

There is no charge for plant samples shared with Montgomery County Master Gardeners for diagnosis, whereas other entities may charge for diagnosis.

Community EVENTS

Montgomery County Master Gardeners are available to volunteer their time and gardening knowledge in support of your local community event.  Please check this page and our Social Media channels for details of our upcoming Community Events.

If you would like to have Master Gardeners support your upcoming event, please email your request to mgmont@umd.edu or leave a message for us at (301) 590-2842 and a Master Gardener will respond to you within 3 business days.

Urban gardening

The Urban Gardening initiative has been in partnership with Fresh Farms Market in downtown Silver Spring since 2015. Our Urban Gardening group can help you with gardening at your home or apartment balcony.  We host Demonstration Workshops at the Silver Spring Fresh Farm Market the first Saturday of each month from May through November. The booth is located on Ellsworth Drive in Veterans Plaza - near the Civic Center.

Many of our visitors leave with a free give away item - like bulbs to plant, a houseplant to care for, herbs or micro-greens to grow, or a hanging pot for a plant.
