I have held past leadership positions during my highschool career and throughout clubs that I am involved in on campus. I was previously a shift manager at a restaurant, which allowed me to develop the skills needed to work on a team and lead them so that we can all grow together. It has also allowed me the skills to work well under stress, practice good time management skills, and have strong communication skills that will all be needed for while seeking out student input and views on all matters concerning them as an SGA senator. I am heavily involved in different clubs and jobs on campus, which has exposed me to many different members of our community, that has allowed me to expand my network of allies that I plan to reach out to so that UMBC as a whole can thrive.
I plan to always put my best effort in, remain respectful towards everyone’s time, and always communicate so that everyone in SGA can remain on the same page as me. I want to foster a positive environment in which we all can contribute and support each other as we do our best to represent the student population on campus. If a conflict arises, I plan to diffuse the situation as quickly and as calmly as I can, ensuring all individuals are held accountable in a respectful manner, so that we can all work together and start dissecting the problem, until we get to the root, which cannot happen if everyone does not remain respectful and cooperative. To fulfill my role, I plan on being respectful to other members and to fit the needs of each individual.
My vision for UMBC is for it to be a place where all students from all the corners of the world feel welcomed and heard. The rights of each individual student are so important, and each person should have confidence in the fact that their ideas can come to life. Therefore, I think it is important that UMBC is inclusive and engaging in all aspects of students lives, so that each person feels represented and can call UMBC their home.
I believe there are some key things that are important about communication of this nature; the first is to be open and honest with others. I think this is important because it facilitates trust and assurance. Another key thing is to be open minded, as everyone brings different ideas to the table, all of which are valid and should be heard. I want people to feel comfortable communicating their ideas to me, and for them to feel as though they have power as an individual in making their ideas come to life at our university.
