What is Forest of Reading?
The Forest of Reading® is Canada’s largest recreational reading program. This initiative helps celebrate Canadian books, publishers, authors and illustrators.
Readers choose a program that they would like to be a part of, usually based on their age or grade, and simply begin reading. They can read all ten of the titles, or pick and choose to read only the ones they are interested in. Participants are encouraged to read at least five of the ten titles to be eligible to vote in April.
This program aims to encourage a genuine and life-long love of reading among readers of all ages.
From About the Forest
How much does the Forest of Reading cost?
This year, TJRC has covered the cost of a board pass to the Forest of Reading program. All UGDSB educators can join in the program with their students, including accessing the materials on the Forest of Reading Password Site and participating in the official voting.
Schools cover the cost of ordering books from the Forest of Reading booklists, including Learning Commons copies. If desired, orders can be submitted directly to Tinlids in SDS - talk to your teacher librarian and/or principal before ordering.
Ordering books - Learning Commons staff
To order books from the Forest of Reading booklists, follow the instructions shared in the UGDSB Learning Commons VLE.
