What is FOLD Kids Book Fest?
FOLD Kids Book Fest centers stories by underrepresented authors and illustrators – showcasing one-of-a-kind programming for children, youth, parents, guardians, and educators.
As the only festival of its kind in Canada, FOLD Kids Book Fest is a multimodal festival, hosting virtual, in-person, and hybrid storytelling events.
FOLD Kids Book Fest virtual events provide students and educators with direct access to a diverse array of incredible authors and storytellers who present storytime readings, writing and art workshops, workshops and evening events geared to educators, and other engaging activities in their interactive virtual clubhouse.

How much does FOLD Kids Book Fest cost?
This year, TJRC has covered the cost of a board pass to FOLD Kids Book Fest. All UGDSB educators can join in the program with their students, including participating in the live festival events and accessing materials from the FOLD virtual clubhouse throughout the year.
Schools cover the cost of ordering books from the FOLD Kids Book Fest booklist, including Learning Commons copies. If desired, orders can be submitted directly to Tinlids in SDS - talk to your teacher librarian and/or principal before ordering.
Do students have to read the books first?
No! Unlike other reading programs, students do not have to read the books in order to attend or appreciate the festival events and activities.
In fact, it’s often better to read the books after students have met the authors and learned more about the stories - this personal connection to the book can make the experience more meaningful.
Teachers are encouraged to register their class and attend the festival first and use the remainder of the school year to explore the books through recreational reading, clubs, etc.
Ordering books - Learning Commons staff
To order books from the FOLD Kids Book Fest booklist, follow the instructions shared in the UGDSB Learning Commons VLE.
