You may look at a person and think that they have it all, like the picture perfect family with the house with the white picket fence and two kids, but nobody's perfect. Everyone has thoughts buried deep inside. Everyone is dealing with their own problems. When you look around, people may be smiling, but you have no idea what happens behind the scenes.
We need to step up to being SELFLESS. If we see someone struggling, we need to support them, and stop always putting ourselves first. When we open up our minds to being selfless, step back and see the bigger picture, we can help improve people’s lives, little by little.
Just letting someone know that they aren’t alone helps immensely. I’m sure everyone wants someone to go to when things get hard, so let’s try to be that person for someone else. When we all come together and work on being selfless, we can accomplish so much. Just going out of your way to help someone carry their groceries will be a step in the right direction.
Personally, I try to be there for everyone around me, but sometimes I have no one to go to. All of those thoughts in my mind bottle up. I start overthinking everything and end up getting stuck inside of my own head. Once I can’t take anymore I slowly crack, little by little, until I’m completely broken. Kinda like how Humpty Dumpty fell off of the wall and no one could put him back together again. We might like to think that someone will be there to help pick us up and put us back together but that isn’t always the case.
Let’s start to try and change that. I was born into a situation that wasn’t ideal. I’ve been through quite a lot, and still have much to deal with today. Some classmates don’t know anything about me because they don’t care to get to know me. Ever since I was old enough to really understand the world, I’ve decided to try and make everyone else’s life a little better. Making other people smile makes me smile too. That’s why I volunteer at our local Dauphin County Human Service Center. I’ve been doing so since the sixth grade. They are there day in and day out giving to our community, so I help there because it fills my soul. It makes me feel good to know that I am making a difference in some way, even if it’s small.
