"Perhaps most remarkably, you and your students managed to accomplish these great things in a year when so many others chose to use COVID as an excuse. Truly, the human spirit at its very best - and we learn who we are - when we lean into a challenge, and you and your students embodied that. Thanks for all you do."
-Mark Dietrich, Agriculture Teacher
A 12- strand rope is always stronger than a 3-strand rope. There are many strands that make this project stronger. In fact, there are some key strands that hold it together. What if we didn’t have the pedestals? How could the shoes have been displayed so professionally? I can’t imagine building one pedestal, let alone the time and the energy to build seventeen. Mr. Buddock lined up the Cabinetry Making class and they set to work. Kade Matter, one of our artists, was a part that.
What if we didn’t have our host businesses? Where would the shoes be displayed so the entire community could enjoy them? And then you have that voice- that one-of-a-kind rockstar voice. There is only one host that can pull off Fireside Chats and Master of Ceremonies so seamlessly. It wasn’t until Heather of Holloway Media Services, began her weekly Thursday Livestream interviews that I saw a cohesion between our in-class and remote learners and seniors that graduated last year.
As I said, a rope is always stronger with more strands. And what about that website which showcases each of the student’s talent so wonderfully with the touch of a button? Mr. Rupp got us up and running with a killer website. And what about Amy Gehring? My right hand gal and left brain. I knew that she would get the job done and it would be done right. We also have sponsors that so generously donated in the following amounts; the stiletto for $1000, the silver sandal for $500 and the Bronze Sneaker, $250.
So, who is the core of our rope? The students, of course. Without the students, who would I promote? Step Up has given me a purpose, has filled my soul, has been my joy and I am so honored to be working with such lovely, dedicated and talented young people. Their beauty begins on the inside and shines out.
"When people come together under a unified voice, incredible things happen."

“I was overjoyed with the support and love from the community at the Step Up event. The community truly did STEP UP to help the Children’s Museum. I was so happy to see all of Ms. Nell's hard work come together to create this great event. She couldn’t have done it without us, but we definitely couldn’t of done it without her as our wonderful leader.” -Eden Savidge
